This guide will assist you in the installation and setup of Edge Apps. Edge Apps are apps that can run inside the Screenly player. It’s a low-code framework designed specifically for screens. Envision it as a next-generation screen operating system, ready for deployment straight out of the box.
The App Store
Screenly now offers an Edge App Store where users can easily browse and install various Edge apps. The store currently offers a clock app, RSS reader, weather app, countdown timer, and Power BI app. We are constantly adding more useful apps to the store.
You can also build custom Edge Apps by exploring our open-source repository Screenly/Playground. This repository provides resources and tools for creating personalized apps tailored to your specific needs.
How to Install an Edge App
- Ensure that you have an active Screenly subscription, a compatible digital signage display, and a stable internet connection. If you need guidance on setting up your screen, you can follow the comprehensive guide available here to learn more about the setup process.
- Log in to your Screenly account and click ‘Edge Apps’ from the left panel of your screen.
- Next, click the +Edge App button and select your desired app from the list that appears on the screen.
- Click Create.
- Next, configure your app by providing a Name and any other parameters required by the Edge App. For instance, the Weather app may require the location of the screen, which is typically fetched automatically. However, you have the option to override it if needed. Similarly, for secure apps like Power BI, you'll need to provide API credentials and specify the Power BI dashboard IDs.
- Next, click Install. Your new app will now be listed in the Edge Apps section of your account and as part of your assets under Contents. Congratulations, you've successfully installed your first Edge App!
