Images contain information that describes details about them called metadata. This metadata is stored as an EXIF file within the properties of the image and contains information like the creation date, resolution, camera model, exposure amount, and orientation (among other properties). Here are a few details you might find when viewing the metadata:
Depending on how the picture was taken, created or modified, the orientation property may have been set to rotate the image, causing your image to appear rotated on your screen.
When you upload your content to Screenly we will respect the orientation set in this metadata, so you will need to modify this and re-upload the content before you see a change. Here are a few options you can try:
- Recreate the image in the correct orientation.
- Modify (remove) the EXIF metadata file using a free online tool or another program. One free online tool to view and remove metadata is Jimpl, but this should be available in most professional image editing software (Photoshop, etc.).
- Make a copy of the image, open it, manually rotate it, then save the changes.
If removing the metadata does not work, please reach out to your content designer for assistance on editing the image.
