Mounting Options
The Player Max includes a VESA mount adapter to attach the device to the back of a display.
- These steps require the use of a cross-head (Phillips) screwdriver. Insert two shoulder screws into the bottom of the player.
- Attach the VESA plate to your display using the four provided screws.
- Align the shoulder screws with the plate's holes and slide the device down to hang it securely.
Setup Manual
- Open the package and remove the Screenly Player or Screenly Player Max (SPM) from the box.
- Locate the three primary components: the player, HDMI cable and power cable.
- Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the TV’s HDMI port, and the other end to the player’s HDMI port. Note the HDMI input number that you connect to on the TV.
- Plug the power cable into a wall outlet, and connect the other end into the player’s power port.
- Push the power button on the front of the player if it doesn't automatically power on (SPM only).
- Turn on the TV, and ensure the correct input source is selected from step 3.
- The player will take a few minutes to complete its initial booting process. Once done, our intro screen will be shown, and a list of network checks will begin.
- If using a wired network connection, locate the ethernet cable included in the box, connect one end to the network port on the player, and the other end to a network port at the building (switch, router, modem, etc.). Consult with your IT team on where to connect.
- If using a wireless connection, connect a USB keyboard into one of the player's USB ports, and press the ESC key to bring up the WiFi wizard (or find the correct key to press by checking the on-screen prompts). Use the arrows on your keyboard to select your network, type in the password and then press the enter key.
- (Optional) If using an advanced network configuration, you’ll need a USB drive to add a special configuration file. Steps for this can be found in our Help Center here.
- After connecting to the network, you should see a PIN code displaying on the screen, and this code will be used to pair the player within your web console (shown later in this guide).
- (Optional) Our SPM also comes with a VESA mount adapter that can be used to connect to the back of a display (this uses a 75mm x 75mm or 100mm x 100mm mounting pattern. If the display is already using a VESA mount then this may not be compatible).
Troubleshooting
Scenario: The screen is completely black with no icon or text showing, and/or the display reports not receiving a HDMI signal.
- Check that the TV is powered on and that the correct input source is selected (HDMI1, HDMI1, etc.).
- Check that the player is powered on, verified by an illuminated power button.
- Ensure the TV is powered on, and that all HDMI cables are connected securely on both ends. Then, reboot the player by holding down the power button until it turns off, then turn it back on by pressing the power button once more.
- Swap out the HDMI cable with a known good cable.
Scenario: The screen is very dark with a faint logo in the center (inactive or idle screen).
- Confirm your subscription is current on the Settings > Billing & Subscription page.
- Confirm your screen is enabled on the Screens > Screen Name > Actions page.
- Confirm the associated playlist is enabled on the Playlists > Playlist page.
- Check the playlist schedule is set up accurately on the Playlists > Playlist page.
Scenario: The screen is booting to a command prompt (terminal) showing errors, or booting directly into the BIOS.
- This step requires you to connect a USB keyboard to your player. Try resetting the BIOS by powering off the player, holding the F2 on DEL button on the keyboard and simultaneously powering on the player.
- Once in the BIOS, press the F9 button to restore system defaults (“Optimize Defaults”), then confirm the selection by selecting OK.
Scenario: You’ve tried resetting the BIOS but the issue still persists.
- This step requires you to connect a USB keyboard to your player. Try initiating a factory reset on the player by powering the device off, and simultaneously powering the device back on and pressing the ESC button on your keyboard repeatedly.
- Highlight and select the option for “Reinstall”, then press Enter.
