What kind of SD card should I use for Screenly?

There are a large number of SD cards available on the market. The quality of these cards varies significantly. Even within the same vendor, the quality might vary a lot. As such, we cannot endorse one vendor over another.

Generally however, these are our guidelines for choosing an SD card:

  • Only use Class 10 SD cards. If you use anything less than this, performance will suffer.
  • Use 8GB or 16GB SD cards.
  • Do not use 32GB, (or larger), SD cards, as the Raspberry Pi is known to have difficulties with these cards from some vendors.
